Frequently Asked Questions

clothing: What should I wear?
Solid colors in neutrals and earth tones are always a perfect choice. I suggest limiting loud, colorful patterns as they can be distracting to the camera. Outfits that coordinate as opposed to completely match give a good aesthetic. If you have young children in the shoot, it is a good idea to make sure that their outfits are comfortable and weather appropriate. An unhappy and uncomfortable child might not yield the photo results that you are hoping for.
hair and makeup
Whatever makes you feel comfortable and like yourself! As a general rule, I tell clients to be careful on how much highlight they use as it can cause flashback from the camera or washout reflection in the sun. Silica-based face creams and powders can also have that effect.
You can bring any personal products that you feel like you might need to do touch ups during the shoot. Just be mindful that touch up time will count as part of the shoot time.
Edits and retouching
All photos will undergo basic editing and retouch before being returned to you. This includes things such as minor acne removal and teeth whitening. This does not include things like tummy tucks and face lifts. Retouch is meant to make you look like your best self - but still yourself! If there is more extensive editing that you would like done (i.e. birth mark removal on the face) please discuss that prior to booking your shoot. Photos requiring such extensive edits may be subject to an additional retouch fee.
C Kay Photos knows that glam headshots for modeling and casting agencies may require more retouching to fit the “look” required and will provide that for those specific photoshoots.
Do you provide location suggestions?
I have several favorite locations for shoots in my back pocket and am happy to provide them when requested! Ultimately, it is still your responsibility to select and secure the location for the shoot. This includes obtaining any necessary reservations, permits, or parking passes needed for both yourself and the photographer.
inclement weather
Ohio weather can unfortunately be pretty unpredictable. If you have selected an outdoor venue for your shoot, C Kay Photos is not responsible for securing an indoor location in the case of inclement weather. However, I am happy to give suggestions! I always recommend that my clients have a backup location in mind in the case of inclement weather. If you really have your heart set on one particular outdoor location, you will be afforded one ‘rain out’ day reschedule with no additional charge. Please note that when your shoot gets rescheduled is up to the discretion of the photographer and their booking schedule.
pets
I know that pets are considered part of the family for many people. Pets who are toilet trained and well behaved are welcome at shoots. Pets who come to the shoot must be contained when they are not being photographed as to not disrupt the rest of the shoot. Dogs are not required to be leashed providing that they follow commands from their owner. You are responsible for attending to your pets’ needs such as providing the pet with water on a hot day. You are responsible for any damage that their pets may cause to the photographer’s gear or personal property.
WOrking with children
I have many years of experience working with children in a variety of settings, both as a photographer and in other roles. When young children are involved in a shoot, it is important that everyone manage their expectations of the children. I love to incorporate fun and play into a shoot whenever I can! This helps to keep the children happy and engaged. Feel free to bring your child’s favorite toy or other toys that match the photoshoot aesthetic! Items like teddy bears, wooden trucks, wooden blocks, and bubbles work great for any type of shoot and setting. I will do my best to help you book a shoot around your child’s feed and nap schedule.
If you have a child with special needs, I am happy to help accommodate them as much as I can to make the process as smooth as possible for everyone.
Is there a limit to how many photos I will receive?
No! Any useable photo that you take during your allotted shoot time is yours. Sometimes we only get one chance to capture a moment - why limit it?
Client conduct
It is expected that all clients will maintain appropriate, respectful behavior both during the shoot and with all pre and post communications. If at any point during the shoot the photographer is repeatedly made to feel uncomfortable or unsafe, they have the discretion to cancel the shoot. Clients are held liable for any damage that they or their party may cause to the photographer’s gear or personal property, and may be required to sign a contract stating as such.
Photo file size and printing
Photos returned to you will be a high quality .jpg file, allowing for flawless printing on a variety of surfaces. It is always recommend that prints, canvases, etc be ordered off of a computer instead of a cellphone to preserve the photo quality. The reason being that cellphones naturally compress photo files to fit the phone’s operating system capabilities. Ordering prints from a cellphone may cause the uploaded photo to be compressed enough that larger prints then look grainy.
